Where can people go?
You need to know where people have rights of access on the land.
This might be a public right of way or an area of land, such as
open country and commons. Also check where agreements allow public
access to other areas. You may also need to consider any issues
that arise where people use other land that has no rights or
agreements for access.
The Ordnance Survey's 1:25,000 maps show public rights of way
and areas of land with rights of access. These are usually
reliable, but are not 'definitive'. Your local authority or
National Park Authority holds the definitive maps of public rights
of way and registered common land. The Countryside Council for
Wales (CCW) hold the definitive maps of open country and copies of
the registered common-land maps. You can also look at a lot of this
information, and more, on our website.
